The Singapore stock market finished session sharply higher on Monday, 05 June 2023, catching up global market gains of previous two sessions. as risk sentiments underpinned by Wall Street rallies on a bumper US jobs report and a deal in Congress to avert a debt default.
At closing bell, the Straits Times Index (STI) index was up 22.71 points, or 0.72%, to 3,189.01 after trading between 3,181.32 and 3,223.38. Volume of 1.83 billion shares worth S$1.45 billion changed hands. There were 294 gainers and 233 decliners. Singapore market closed on last Friday for Vesak Day holiday.
The top gainer on the STI was Jardine Cycle & Carriage, which rose 4.98% to S$33.74. Meanwhile, the top decliner was Keppel DC REIT, which lost 2.87% to S$2.04.
The local banking trio, accounting for a weighting of over 40% of the STI, were higher. United Overseas Bank climbed up 0.5% to S$27.98 and DBS added 1.5% to S$31.06, while Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp was up 0.82% at S$12.33.
